What started as a fire alarm ended as a theft alarm after personnel from the Parian Police Station found a burglar inside the UV Building in Colon Street, Barangay Parian Cebu City this afternoon.

Firefighters rushed to the building after getting a report of smoke coming from the building past noon yesterday, only to find Romar Lobon, 22, inside.

Lobon was arrested after he admitted that he entered the building to steal wires, said SF01 Romeo Verao, from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Central Visayas (BFP 7).

Lobon added that he lighted the wires using a match after failing to pull them out from the wall, but instead caused the fire.
Verao said they they received a call from a concerned citizen and dispatched two firetrucks to the area. But when firefighters got into the building,

they found Lobon, who was hiding inside the ceiling and was covered with soot.

Lobon is now detained at the Parian Police Precinct pending the filing of charges against him, said Verao.
