THEIRS is a differently vibrant take on Sinulog music.

Young singers Cresente “Jan Loyd” Estoce Jr., and Jessie Joy Bandiala are the voices behind the song “Sinulog Oh Sinulog.”

Estoce Jr., 23, said he wrote the song for a music video contest that did not push through.

Both singers, who met as choir members in the town of Balamban, agreed to collaborate with Heritage Productions for the release of the music video online.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the music video uploaded on the Heritage Productions page had 59,000 views, 1,300 shares and 1,800 reactions or likes. It also features Jay Kummer “Dodoy” Teberio, more popularly known as Tubig Queen.

“It’s great to know nga Cebuanos are getting interested in the song especially that Sinulog is coming,” he said during Thursday’s edition of CDN Fresh Talks. The song was first titled “Pritiritit Pit Señor.”

“Lisud hinumduman sa mga tawo so I had to make a better title. Nag buhat na lang ko og ‘Sinulog Oh Sinulog’ which is very transparent sa song,” he explained.

He collaborated with Marvin Troy Barcenilla on the song arrangement.

Since Barcenilla is in China, they communicated and exchanged ideas through Skype. It took a month to complete the song, including instrumentation.

Estoce Jr. said he wanted the song to reflect the Filipino music culture.

“Sinulog is already known worldwide so why not create a song that will define the Filipino culture? Mao tong naa sya’y kulintang, kubing, ethnic. Indigenous kaayo paminawon,” he added.

Aside from doing music, Estoce Jr. also works as a customer service specialist at Valuelabs, a BPO company.

Meanwhile, he’s also a vocal soloist at weddings.

To add more excitement to the song, Estoce Jr. asked Bandiala to do the rap part.

“It my first time to rap. Ang akoang genre is pop. Wa ko nag expect nga mo suggest sya nga mo rap,” said Bandiala, a third year Civil Engineering student from the University of Cebu (UC). The 22-year-old singer also works as an assistant voice coach in a music school in Cebu City.

Before she was tapped by Estoce Jr. to sing “Sinulog Oh Sinulog,” Bandiola joined the singing competition “Sinulog Idol” in 2016.

Bandiola said rapping became easier because the lyrics of the song are the same prayers she offers to the Sto. Niño.
