PB to look into Alegria accident

The Provincial Board (PB) will be inviting officials from the Central Visayas offices of the Land Transportation Office (LTO – 7) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB -7) to shed light on the accident in Alegria town that resulted to seven fatalities on Jan. 20.

This after the PB, during the legislative inquiry on the matter, discovered that the franchise of the ill-fated Toyota Grandia Van has no control over its driver, Gilbert dela Cruz.

Joshly Pangatungan, the son of Joseph Pangatungan, owner of Inner J Tourist Transport, revealed to the legislative that Dela Cruz only happened to attach his van to their company as means to legally transport tourists in Cebu.

“The van is owned by Gilbert. He only attached it to our upon request of a mutual friend. You cannot register for a franchise if you only have one unit,” said Pangatungan.

This prompted the PB, with Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale as its presiding chairperson, to invite experts from LTO – 7 and LTFRB – 7 to shed light on the matter.
