People say that love conquers all, and that absence makes the heart grow fonder. However, this might not always be the case since there are several instances of couples going through rough patches in their relationship because of not being able to be around each other as often as they would like.
Here are some ways that help in dealing with long distance relationships.
Communication is key
Be as open as possible with each other. Share happy moments, and don’t be afraid to talk about the things that make you sad or vulnerable. It’s not about always being happy, it’s about being comfortable enough to share even the deepest emotions with each other.
Don’t overdo it
It’s important to keep track of each other, but don’t go expecting that you should always be responsive to each other at all times. Give each other ample space. Have long serious talks from time to time, but you don’t have to do it so much. Even simple random messages throughout the day are already enough. It’s the little things that count.
Keep the trust
It’s not going to be easy, but you are going to have to learn to get past those ugly mental images because it’s only going to create issues that don’t exist in the first place. You don’t want to be in a place where you become too obsessed with all these different thoughts that it starts to negatively affect your relationship.
Build the moment
Look forward to the next time you will be seeing each other. It’s always nice to have something to anticipate in the relationship. But don’t make too much of an effort to make sure everything is perfect because finally being with each other after quite a while should already be more than enough.
Live your own dreams
Not being in each other’s company all the time might be a good thing in a sense that you can both be more in tune with your lives as an individual. Sometimes, because you are so caught up in the idea of the relationship and being together that you forget about yourself. You forget about your own needs. Not that you can’t have dreams together, but it’s also important to not lose sight of who you are. You are both different people who are allowed to have different lives. And this is the kind of mindset that should prevail in long distance relationships. You do not need to spend every single second of every single day with each other just to prove your love. And you should love yourself just as much as you love each other.
Distance should not matter if the love is strong, and the love is strong if there is continued support for each other all throughout the relationship. Learn to become each other’s strength and make it through every moment together. Love is a beautiful thing, enjoy it and be thankful that you have someone to share it with.
Keep the love alive!
