MANDAUE CITY, CEBU- A robbery suspect was arrested by Mandaue City Police while waiting for a ride home to Consolacion town late on Thursday night.

Jeime Nemecio Antonio, 38, a resident of Gold Smith Subdivision in Barangay Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu, is now detained at Opao police precinct while robbery charges are prepared against him.

Police recovered from the suspect’s possession two Samsung cellular phones, a pink sling bag, an unlicensed Smith and Wesson magnum .357 pistol with 6 live bullets, and three small sachets believed to contain shabu.

Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said it is unfortunate that the robbery happened in his city.

His arrest was made an hour after he held up two women at gunpoint while onboard a public utility jeepney (PUJ) along M. Logarta Street in Barangay Subangdaku.
Antonio, who was seated near the door of the PUJ with route number 01K, declared the holdup around 9:45 p.m. while at the vicinity of SM Hypermarket along M. Logarta Street.

He took the bag and cellphone of the woman seated next to him, and the cellphone of the second victim before he jumped off the PUJ.

A male passenger and bystanders in the area tried to chase the suspect but lost track of him.

One of the victims sought help from a passing motorcycle-riding cop who immediately chased the suspect.

A copy of the police blotter stated that Antonio was arrested at around 10:50 p.m. after a concerned citizen informed them of the presence of an armed person near the vicinity of Metro Fresh n’ Easy along Plaridel Street in Barangay Umapad.

Antonio will also face separate complaints for illegal possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
