Powerhouse Don Bosco bags four crowns in Thirsty Cup

Don Bosco teams continue their dominance in football after bagging four titles so far in the ongoing 15th Thirsty Football Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center.
After retaining their title in the Boys Under 19, the Greywolves capped the first day of competition late Friday with the Mix Open and 38-Above titles.

They won their fourth title yesterday by ruling the Mix Under 7 category.

Don Bosco Alumni manned by local football stars seven years ago and lady booters from the San Roque Football Club became the new Mix Open champion after prevailing in a penalty shootout against VSU United of Baybay, Leyte, 3-2, following a 1-all regulation.

Following a miss by Karl Arcenas in the shootout, Miguel Caindec, Angelo Ouano and Mae Ann Sollano all found the back of the net handing Don Bosco the title.

Sollano, who sealed the win, was picked Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the category.

Don Bosco also had a dramatic win in the 38-Above finals with a last minute lone goal by Rommel Cuizon against Waray FC. The MVP honors went to Nori Yamaguchi.

Yesterday, Don Bosco added another title via its B team which edged CNN Dolphins, 1-0, in the Mix Under 7 finals.

Don Bosco B would have contested the title against the Los Amigos who blanked the CNN Dolphins, 2-0, in the semis but the later protested claiming that Los Amigos had fielded in a player who was not on the list. Alexander Rayo was honored with the MVP award.

The CNN Dolphins rebounded via penalty shootout against Tamasak FC, 3-0, in the Mix Under 9 category. MVP honors went to Cedric Lopez.

Giuseppe FC retained its title in the Girls 15 by topping the category played in a league-type format with 13 points on 4 wins and 1 draw. Argen Garcia went home with the MVP plum.

Out-of-towners were not to be outdone as they also bagged two titles yesterday. San Juan of Capiz ruled the Girls U17, also played in a league-type format, with 13 points (4-0-1). Patricia Buensoceso was named MVP.

Tamasak FC of Iloilo frustrated Don Bosco from bagging its fifth title, beating the latter via penalty shootout, 3-1. Mikael Gedorio won MVP honors.
Other categories were still being contested as of presstime.

Categories to be played today are the Boys U15, Boys U17 and the Women’s Open while the premier Men’s Open which attracted the most number of teams at 36, started its eliminations last night and will resume this 6 p.m.
