Man arrested for trying to bribe police in Badian

An illegal logger was arrested after he tried to bribe the chief of police in Badian in exchange for the release of his cohorts and their cargo trucks.

Joel Legara, 46, from Barangay Montañeza in Malabuyoc was arrested after to offered P20,000 to Senior Insp. Bonifacio Pareja, the chief of Badian police.

According to Pareja, Legara and his cohorts attempted to transport the smuggled lumbers to Barangay Tubod.

PO3 Jonathan Calabroso, the Badian police investigator, said the bribery happened during a closed-door meeting with the police chief who refused the offer. Legara was immediately arrested.

Badiano police already filed a case against the suspects for violating Republic Act 3019 otherwise known as the Anti-graft and Corruption Practices Act.
