THE University of San Carlos (USC) continues to be recognized for excellence in carrying its education with a mission as its Director of Libraries is awarded the Academic Librarian of the Year.

Maxie Doreen L. Cabarron, MS, received the honor during the annual general assembly of the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians (PAARL) last January 28 at the Bulwagan ng Dangal of University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City .

PAARL recognized Cabarron for her outstanding national contribution to academic or research librarianship and library development in the country that supports scholarly research and formal education at the collegiate level and higher.

USC first earned the award 20 years ago when PAARL peers also honored Cabarron’s earlier predecessor, Marilou P. Tadlip, Ed.D., through a process akin to the Oscars of the Academy of Motion Pictures in the US movie industry.

The country’s tertiary librarians chose Cabarron for valuable achievements in planning and implementing innovative or high-impact library programs.

PAARL noted that she had undertaken significant and influential research on academic or research library service, and that she had significantly extended support to PAARL and other related organizations.

“When you pursue the top virtue of excellence, it brings you to a new level of success,” Cabarron quoted author Mark F. La Moure in expressing her gratitude in receiving the honor.

She admitted she now feels pressured with the expectations of others, but added she got more determined to continue to improve the USC library system and support other libraries and organizations.

She said she would further align innovations in the USC Library System in the service of the community that USC serves, and continue to strive for excellence.

USC operates 17 libraries that include the Josef Baumgartner-Learning Resource Center, Cebuano Studies Center, and World Bank-supported Knowledge for Development Center-International Collections.
