Global Cebu falters

BURMESE football club, the Yangon United FC, clinched their third straight win in Group G of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup at the expense of the Philippines’ Global Cebu FC, 3-0, at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon, Myanmar.

The win gave Yangon a solid hold of the top spot in Group G with 9 points equivalent to its 3-0-0 (win-draw-loss) record.

Global, on the other hand, continues to languish at the bottom with no win yet to its name. It has a 0-1-2 card.

Yangon first found the back of the net in the 3-minute added time in the first half via Lwin Maung Maung, who picked up a free kick and slotted in a goal in the bottom right corner.

Maung Maung’s goal seemed to have ignited his team as just three minutes into the second half, Sekou Sylla scored the first of his brace. He sealed Yangon’s win with his second goal in the 57th minute.

Global was playing without Curt Dizon, who fractured his left forearm last week during their first game in the Philippines Football League.

Global’s next game will be on March 13 against Yangon again. This time, the game will be played in Global’s home turf at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
