Cebu’s top golfers, jins to be honored

TWO OF THE most promising golfers from Cebu City will receive major awards, while the most bemedalled taekwondo jin from Cebu will also receive a major award in the 36th Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Brewery Sports Awards on March 26 at the Robinsons Galleria.

Peter Tyler Po, who won the Philippine Amateur Match Play championship last year, will receive the major award for golf along with Lloyd Jefferson “LJ” Go, who was named the best player of the Big East Conference for Seton Hall.

Coincidentally, Po is now bound for Seton Hall, while Go is already in the pro ranks.

LJ’s younger sister, Lois Kaye Go will also receive a citation for making the national team last year along with Junia Gabasa and Weiwei Gao.
On the other hand, McAvynger Alob leads the taekwondo awardees this year and is the sole major awardee for the sport.

“Over the years, our taekwondo jins have consistently delivered medals every time they compete abroad and it’s a good testament of the level of competition of Cebu taekwondo. Every year also, we honor these athletes who excel internationally since they also are a source of pride for Cebu sports,” said outgoing SAC president Mike T. Limpag.

Alob won a gold medal in the team free style event in the 2017 World Taekwondo Hanmadang Championship, ald a silver medal in the team standard poomsae. Alob also won a gold medal in the individual freestyle in the Kimunyong Championship in South Korea last year.

Those who receive citations for taekwondo are Lyan Llanto, Lee Navales, Aidaine Laza, Alyssa Llenes, Alexander Llenes, Johann Concepcion, Francis Arquero, Rinna Babanto and Nica Garces. /pooled report
