FOR THE Cebu Fireblade Dragonboat Club, its upcoming stint in the Cebu Dragon Boat Fiesta this April 13 to 15 in the City of Naga Boardwalk is not just about winning.

Of course, the team, which won the 250m Mixed – Cebu category last year, is still aiming for another crown. But more than that, the team wants to have some fun while competing.

“For the Cebu Fireblade family, we [want to] enjoy the camaraderie of the team, other teams and the festive crowd and to experience the said ‘world class international race,’” said team manager Leila Colina-Fua.

This year, the team will vie in the 250m and 500m mixed short boat categories.

Among the things the team is looking forward to is the festive competition this year.

“We are looking for this festival event that will be a more meaningful experience that you’ll treasure and make you say ‘I want to comeback and race again.,’” she said.

Team member Eils Tenchavez said the team, founded in January 2017, is having its regular training at the Cebu Yacht Club in Lapu-Lapu City during the weekends. The practices will double as the race draws near.

“It gets more frequent when race date is close. Like we will train during the weekdays as well,” said Tenchavez

The team members who’ll compete in the Naga race are Erna Astrologo, Paul Senados, Eils Tenchavez, Brittyl Mayormita, Ferylin Magno, Mario Donaire, Genevieve Allecer, Stephan Lasa, Loie Cabras, Ericson Victoria, Lexter Fernandes, Rosie Pepito, Justine Gilia, Chester Revil, and Jerry Gano. The team’s coach is Ramon Alquizola, Jr.
