Kiyomi Watanabe begins journey to 2020 Tokyo Olympics

3-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Kiyomi Watanabe, whose mother, is a native of Toledo City, Cebu, will begin her journey to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this May in the Mexico Grand Prix.

The Cebu-born Watanabe is currently ranked no. 20 in the world and needs to accumulate more points to enter the top 12 to qualify for the Olympics.

Watanabe recently won a bronze medal in the 2018 Grand Slam Dusseldorf last February.

Watanabe, 21, will also be representing the Philippines in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, wherein she is ranked no.4 behind two Japanese Judokas and one Mongolian Judoka.
