A three-year-old boy drowned in a resort’s swimming pool in Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla town in southern Cebu past 9 a.m. Monday, April 9.

Minglanilla police identified the boy as Leebrent Cañoneo from Sitio Alaska, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

SPO2 Oliver Dacua of the Minglanilla police station said that Ramilyn Cañoneo, the mother of the boy, was attending an outing in the private resort with her fellow teachers when the incident happened.

Ramilyn didn’t notice that her child jumped into a 4-feet deep pool.

The victim was immediately brought to the hospital but was declared dead by the attending physicians.

Initial investigation showed that no lifeguards were on duty at the swimming pool during the incident.

Dacua added that it is not the first time that there is a drowning case in the resort.

Last July 2017, a 13-year-old Klarence Justin Alfeche was also found lifeless in the swimming pool of the resort, his remains were recovered two hours later by the lifeguard, who was eating away from the area at the time and didn’t notice Alfeche drowning in the pool.
