Gov’s Cup basketball tips off

THE GOVERNOR’S Cup 21 and Under Inter-City/Municipality Basketball Tournament gets underway today at the Cebu Coliseum featuring two regular games and one exhibition game after the opening ceremonies that start at 1 p.m.

The two games will be between Santa Fe and Bantayan Island in the north division bracket 2, and Boljoon going up against Alcoy in the south division bracket 2.

There will also be an exhibition game between the mayors of the participating cities and towns and the board members of the Cebu Provincial government.

Cebu Province Gov. Hilario Davide III and Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) Chairman Michel Lhuillier will lead the ceremonial toss during the opening ceremonies.

The opening will be highlighted by the search for the 2018 Miss Governor’s Cup.

Today’s events will be broadcasted live via Cebu Sports Live on the Cebu Daily News’ Facebook page.

This year’s tournament has attracted 10 more teams compared to last year’s inaugural edition. This brings the number of teams up to 47 teams in the second edition of the cash-rich basketball tournament.

The 10 new teams are Carcar City, Moalboal, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Cordova, Aloguinsan, Daan Bantayan, San Francisco, Poro and Catmon. Defending champions are the Minglanilla Archangels.

A whopping P500,000 cash prize awaits the winner of this much-awaited basketball tournament.
