TAGBILARAN City, Bohol – Melody Perez did it again.

The runner from University of San Carlos (USC) who almost didn’t make it to this National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Games 2018 due to a misdiagnosed strained left hip is well on her way to achieving her dreams of becoming a Most Valuable Player.

This after the 20-year-old trackster clinched her second gold in the meet on her first attempt in the 5000-meter run, which was the last event of the track and field competition yesterday at the CPG Complex.

“For three years that I’ve been competing in the Prisaa, I see athletes being honored as Most Valuable Players and I just thought it might be nice if I become one,” Perez said.

Perez’s second gold is one of the 20 that Central Visayas added to tighten its grip on the top spot in the seniors division.

It also has nine silvers and 10 bronze medals.

The youth team is also dominating its side with a medal haul of 26-9-1.

Central Visayas had a strong start to its campaign of clinching its fourth straight and seventh title in this national multi-sporting competition for collegiate students of private colleges and universities with a 5-3-2 (gold-silver-bronze) medal count in the seniors division and 17-4-0 in the youth division on the first day of competition last Monday.

The Prisaa has a modified medal tally. It will not add the medal tallies from the seniors and youth divisions but instead will have separate overall champions from both divisions.

Also, in the team events, medals will be given and counted to all members of the team who played, thus basketball will get five and football will get 11.

Yesterday, the bulk of the gold medals came from the tankers with 16 after winning three relay events — the 200m medley men’s and women’s and the 400m freestyle relay.

The youth swimmers also padded their lead with eight medals.

In the ballgames, the 12-time Cesafi champions UV Green Lancers look headed to winning their third title after wins against Region 10, 94-73, ARMM, 96-51, and Caraga, 80-34, wherein the latter just gave up in the third quarter.

In football, the 5-time Cesafi champions USC Warriors won their first game against Bicol, 4-0.
