4 Cebuanos advance to National Finals of Pacquiao Boxing Cup
FOUR Cebuano pugs qualified for the national finals of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup after scoring victories in the Visayas Finals last Saturday in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
Eduardo Jimenez and John Paul Gabunelas of Team Cebu City Boxing Club and Omega Boxing Gym’s April Jay Abne and Jarah Hury Aragon topped their respective weight categories to gain seats to the national finals which is set on July 7 in Sarangani Province.
Gabunelas won over Michael Adolfo of Cadiz City by split decision in the youth boys light flyweight category while his teammate Eduardo Jimenez defeated Samuel Manale of Bago City by unanimous decision in the junior boys light flyweight category.
Aragon, meanwhile, escaped Romer Pinili of Bayawan City by split decision victory to capture the gold medal in the youth boys’ lightweight category and Abne beat Nel Tambanillo of Bago City by unanimous decision under the youth boys’ flyweight category.
