Cebu Province banked on the stellar showing of Dave Cabaron to score its first victory in the ongoing Cebu City Mayor’s Cup Open Volleyball Tournament yesterday at the University of San Carlos (USC) main campus gymnasium in downtown Cebu City.

Cabaron, a spiker from the Southwestern University, had 16 points as Cebu Province defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, in a men’s division bracket B game.

Cebu Province is composed of ex and current Cebu Schools Athletic Association Foundation (Cesafi) volleyball players and is coached by ex-USJ-R Head Coach Grace Antigua.

In the other games, 8X8 defeated the University of Southern Philippines Foundation in the men’s seniors division, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, while USC downed TEC in the men’s juniors division, 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-11.

Other matches are still being played as of press time.

There are 18 teams participating in this 10-day tournament, which is held in partnership with the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Cebu Spikers Volleyball Club.
