HRRAC chief: We will work with Mayor Osmeña in solving garbage collection problems

The Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association in Cebu (HRRAC) welcomes plans of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña to address problems on garbage collection.

Carlo Suarez, President of HRRAC, said that while they would respect any decision by the mayor, he trusts that more consultations will be done.

He said he was hoping that the city would also provide some sort of assistance to big industry players, hotels and malls.

Currently, hotels in the city have their garbage collected by the barangay.

Mayor Osmeña earlier said he was planning to have the city focus on household wastes and for establishments to employ private collectors.

“At this stage in a macro scale we do understand the stand of Mayor but I trust that he will help the so called “big players in the industry such as malls, hotels, schools et al.” in the proper planning of garbage management,” Suarez said.

“We know he will collaborate with all the key players and find the best solution. At the end of the day waste management is everyone’s concern. The solution is not simply passing it to another sector. We will wait for the Mayor’s further collaboration intention regarding waste management and we will be willing to comply if it will benefit all,” he added.
