A total of 2,200 runners will answer the starting gun in the Hunat Sugbu: Dagan Para Ni Maning tomorrow morning that will start at the Biliran Road in the Cebu Business Park and finish at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.

Nick Nacorda, the chairman of the Hunat Sugbu Run told Cebu Daily News that after their final coordination meeting with the technical team and other stakeholders yesterday, they can safely say that they are a hundred percent ready for the foot race which is held to commemorate the death of Manuel “Maning” G. Ting, the owner of the Cebu Parklane International Hotel (CPIH), which is spearheading the event.

The running event will feature a 21-kilometer race which has a total of 700 participants, a 12-K with 500 runners, a 6-K also with 500 and a 3-K which also gathered 500 runners.

“We’ve had a final coordination meeting yesterday with the committee and our race director Joel Baring and we have already ironed out everything that we need to do for the preparation of the running event and we are ready for it,” said Nacorda.

He added that the number of registered runners could increase since the registration was set to cap off last night yet.

The Hunat Sugbu: Dagan Para ni Maning was initially organized to call for justice for the slain hotelier back in 2011. But, it eventually turned out to be one of Cebu’s most prestigious footraces because of its red carpet-style of organization.

Runners look forward to joining the race each year because of the signature breakfast buffet waiting for them at the finish line, not to mention the cash prizes, the finishers medals and other treats for the participants.

Finishers medals will be given to the 12-K and 21-K finishers while a scrumptious meal from the CPIH’s buffet will be served to the runners at the finish line.

The race’s proceeds will be used for the hotel’s medical mission in partnership with the Jesus Christi Community of Cebu; as well as to fund a member of the Parklane Para Tri Team, Alex Silverio, who is aiming to qualify for the Paralympics.

Gun start for the 21-K is at 4 a.m. with the other distances to follow thereafter.
