Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he is happy that members of the Lower House have decided to oust Davao Del Norte Representative Pantaleon Alvarez as House Speaker, and be replaced by former President and Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo.

“I’m very happy because Alvarez is the power behind (Presidential Assistant to the Visayas Michael Dino) Dino and (Cebu 3rd District Rep.) Gwen Garcia,” said Osmeña.

Osmeña is also expecting the House of Representatives under Arroyo’s leadership to be “more friendly and supportive” to Cebuanos.

However, the mayor said that the change in leadership in the lower house will not affect the local political scene.

Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgar Labella, who is the president of PDP – Laban Cebu City, carried the same view.

“We respect the decision of the House because that’s the decision of the majority,” said Labella.
