‘IWALY’ showcases Cebuanos’ faith and love for family

AFTER five months, GMA’s romantic comedy series, “Inday Will Always Love You” aired its final episode last night.

And although the highly successful project has come to an end, the cast as well as the production team brought home with them some valuable lessons aside from getting a peek into Cebu’s attractions, heritage and culture.

John Mychal Feraren, the series’ executive producer, told Cebu Daily News that he learned how vital family and faith are to the Cebuanos.

“It is one thing to read about Cebu but it is another thing to be able to experience it firsthand,” he said.

“Inday Will Always Love You” centers on Barbie Forteza’s character, Happylou, a bubbly and hardworking girl from Manila who dreams of having a complete family.

Although happy in the company of her loving mother, grandmother, sister and neighbors, she sets out to look for her father in Cebu, and that’s when her life’s adventures and misadventures start.

The series also showcased Cebuanos’ devotion to the Santo Niño and included clips of the Sinulog Festival.

Feraren described Cebu as a beautiful place, as shown in the many tourist spots IWALY featured. These include the Sirao Garden and Temple of Leah in Cebu City as well as the 10,000 Roses Cafe in Cordova.

They also shot scenes in the towns of Argao, Aloguinsan, and Oslob.

“There are so many stories to tell. We hope that through the show we were able to capture effectively a facet of Cebuanos that we can be proud of,” Ferraren said.

“We hope that after IWALY we can create more stories that the people will also learn to love,” he added.

Directed by Monti Parungao and Rember Gelera, “Inday Will Always Love You” is produced by GMA News and Public Affairs.

Other stars of “Inday Will Always Love You” are Manilyn Reynes, Ricky Davao, Derrick Monasterio, Juancho Trivino, Nova Villa, Gladys Reyes, Christopher Roxas, Sherliz
Simon, Tina Paner, Kimpoy Feliciano, Super Tekla, Buboy Villar, twins Charlotte and Charisse Hermoso, and Kim Rodriguez.
