TWO Mitsubishi L-300 vans are just the start of the equipment support that the Cebu City government will give the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Cebu City Police Office.

“This is a continued support to our police. Next month, we will give them bomb suits, bullet proof vest and other equipment,” said Councilor Dave Tumulak, deputy mayor for police matters, after the vans were turned over to the CCPO.

The two L-300 vans will be used to transport the police during patrol operations.

He said it is important that the city would support and help them in strengthening the implementation of peace and order in the city.

“We have to support our policemen so that they will continue to safeguard the constituents,” he said.

He added that by next year, the city will provide them with additional necessary materials and even firearms.

Meanwhile, Tumulak said that he was worried about the existence of illegal drugs in high schools especially the night high schools.

Tumulak said this as he confirmed reports of the existence of illegal drugs in some public high schools in the city.

He said last year he has been requesting law enforcement agencies to look into the matter.

“It is because we have noticed that there are illegal drugs in some public schools. I’m not saying elementary but high school,” he said.

“Right now, the Department of Education as well as the police is strengthening its efforts to stop these students,” Tumulak said.

He said he personally knew that these kinds of incidents had been happening inside schools.

“Especially shabu. They sell and deal it inside (schools),” he said.

He added that DepEd is already strengthening their measures.
He said more security guards are added in schools.

Tumulak requested that the teachers should report to their school officials or to the authority if they knew of any suspected drug user in their respective schools.

“We ask also the assistance of the teachers to submit the list of names for them to be able to have a rehabilitation program,” he said.
