GASSER

VETERAN newscaster Harry Gasser, one of the most iconic newsmen of the country, has passed away. He was 76.

Gasser was known as the face of the now-defunct Newswatch of the network formerly known as RPN 9. He later moved to Cebu and anchored ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol Central Visayas. He was married to veteran actress Flora Gasser.

According to his son, Henry, Gasser suffered a stroke on March 28, and succumbed to complications around 3:50 a.m. yesterday.

“He was declared dead at 3:50 a.m. Doctors tried to revive him, but he’s really gone. His heart condition was triggered by pneumonia he contracted last December,” he said.

Gasser’s remains were taken to St. Peter’s Chapel along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and will be cremated on Monday, April 7.
