POLICE have been conducting an average of four operations a month to arrest illegal gun manufacturers in Danao City, northern Cebu.

But despite the aggressive campaign against loose firearms, clandestine gun-making continues in the city, said Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7).

Last Monday afternoon, CIDG-7 operatives arrested Renerio Damiles Lucero, 45, who was allegedly caught making guns in a makeshift shanty near his house in barangay Taytay.

Seized from the shanty were six .45 caliber pistols, .38 revolvers, several ammunition and a gun-making equipment.

Posadas said there have been several arrests in the past few months but they continued to receive reports that illegal gun manufacturing remains rampant in the city.

Supt. Fermin Armendarez said more police operations will be made in the coming days.
He said unlicensed gun-makers have transferred to another areas in Danao to avoid being tracked down by police.
