THE organizing committee of the Kadaugan Street Party is again reminding the public that a portion of the M.L. Quezon highway – between the first and second Mactan-Cebu bridges – will be closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday.

This is to give way to the three-day Kadaugan Street Party which will start Friday and will end on Sunday.

There will be food stalls, live concerts and disco, photo booths, Sundown Beer Run, Kahayag and Higante parade and the highlight of the event will be the Rampada showdown.

A 360 degree center stage will be erected for the showdown.

A minimal entrance fee will be collected for those wanting a better seat but the area can be viewed for free by the public.

The prizes for major awards were increased from P100,000 to P250,000 in the open and barangay categories.

The traffic rerouting scheme for the event was already published in all local dailies to guide motorists.

He said that traffic enforcers and police will be deployed at the alternate routes.

The designated parking area for those participating in the Kadaugan Street Party is at the back of Gaisano Mactan.

Airport-bound passengers from Cebu mainland will be directed to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

The food festival at the Liberty Shrine participated in by hotels and restaurants, which was formally opened last Monday, will be there until Saturday and is open from 5:30 pm to 9 pm.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Rowena Montecillo lauded the initiative of Lapu-Lapu City for initiating the food festival giving ordinary citizens a chance to try food and beverages prepared by expensive hotel and restaurants.

“The local community and tourists should also be aware of these opportunities and not only the foreigners to keep tourism very much alive,” Montecillo said.
