Task force needed to stop quarrying in Talisay river

Talisay City Councilor Antonio Bacaltos Jr. called on Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes to form a task force that would apprehend those extracting sand and gravel from the Mananga riverbed.

Bacaltos said he inspected the riverbed and found people extracting sand and gravel.  He said the activity should stop lest it further deepens the riverbed and aggravate soil erosion in the area.

He said each person extracts 10 sacks of sand and gravel every day which are sold to construction companies.

“I would  still (inspect for now) but if there is a need for back-up then I  will tap the local police,” Bacaltos said.

Bacaltos said Talisay City government allocated P4.5 million for a task force  to stop illegal quarrying but this didn’t push through.

Mayor delos Reyes said he is in favor of the proposal to create the task force.
