His stint at the Talisay City College may have been shortlived, but Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete has something to celebrate.

The Municipal Trial Court in Cities in Mandaue City cleared him of a criminal case for illegal possession of firearms after the prosecution failed to prove his guilt.

He organized a thanksgiving mass yesterday with 800 students inside the Mandaue City College in Basak, Mandaue City.

He was arrested in May 8, 2008. He allegedly had with him a .38 cal. revolver which he was about to hand over to a man near the Fatima Church in Basak, Mandaue City. He was released after posting P60,000 bail.

But the court ruled that the prosecution failed to establish the accusation, and that there were inconsistencies in the statements of witnesses.
