Antonio Cabibil lorded over the Cebu Professionals Chess Association’s (CEPCA) monthly qualifying tournament for July last Sunday at the Handuraw Pizza-Gorordo.

Cabibil, who already qualified for the grand finals with an earlier championship this year, racked up a total of 4.5 points to snare the championship title in this 5-round Swiss system tussle.

Since the former Southwestern University (SWU) varsity chess team member Cabibil already has a seat in the finals,  second place finisher Arnold Cadiz, who chalked up a total of 4.0 points,  earned the automatic slot to the Battle of Champions this December. Finishing third  is Ben Dimaano with 3.5 points.

Cadiz will join Cabibil, June edition champion Peterson Sia, April edition king Jimmy Ty, Jr., Mario Mangubat and Rey Flores in the finals.

During the tournament, Cepca welcomed its newest members in Alexander “Alex” Olis (PhD) of Florida, USA. and Regelito Hortelano, Election Assistant II of Comelec, Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu.
