THE Mandaue City Government is asking Malacañang to declare Aug. 29, Friday a non-working holiday because it’s 45th Charter Day celebration falls on a Saturday, Aug. 30.

Councilor Diosdado Suico, the executive committee chairman of the 45th Mandaue City Founding Anniversary said although the city celebrate its charter day every August 30, the city council approved in mass motion his sponsored resolution asking President Benigno Aquino to declare August 29 as a non-working holiday in the city considering that it is the last day of work of the month as August 30 falls on a Saturday.

Mandaue City became a city on June 21, 1969 by virtue of Republic Act 5519. But Presidential Proclamation 586 designated August 30, 1969 as the date of the formal organization of the City Government.

As of yesterday, they are yet to receive a reply from the Office of the President.
Also yesterday, the city kicked off its month-long activities for the Charter Day celebration which has a budget of P3.5 million.

Mayor Jonas Cortes with some department heads and city councilors held a media briefing to announce the activities they have lined up which include an exhibit at the Parkmall from Aug. 22 to 31 and Bibingkahan and the Masareal Festival on the 28th.
