At least 300 representatives from 17 business chambers will attend the Visayas Area Business Conference (VABC) on Aug. 21 to 22 at the Oakridge Pavilion in Banilad, Mandaue City.

There will also be five speakers who will tackle topics ranging from Asean integration to the media’s dealing with disasters said Stanley Go, VABC event chairman yesterday.

The speakers are Ricardo Hizon Mercado, director of Family Business Development Center of the John Gokongwei School of Management;  Pinky T. Yee,  Goldilocks marketing director; and Dr. Cielito Habito of the School of Social Sciences; Dr. Vicky Belo; and Charie Villa, ABS-CBN’s regional network news head.

Go said this year’s business conference is critical following the two major calamities that hit the region last year.

“Aside from the learnings we will have from the speakers, the conference will also provide a venue where businessmen in the region can discuss issues and agree on the best resolutions,” he said.

According to  Jose Ng, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) vice president for Visayas, the the business chamber  will document, compile the issues tackled during the conference and submit these to the government,

Ng said this is the PCCI’s way to inform the government about what kind of support the businessmen will need.

Other issues to be discussed are taxation, power, and infrastructure, said Go.

The conference is part of this year’s monthlong Mandaue Business Month and is organized by the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
