An official of the regional Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) ordered the release of the 20-foot container van intercepted by the Cebu provincial government’s task Force Kalikasan late Saturday afternoon.

Randolf Corrales of BFAR-7, who inspected the contents of the container van deposited at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) grounds, said the shark fins confiscated belonged to blue sharks and not thresher sharks.

Corrales said blue sharks are not among the marine animals listed for protection by the provincial government. But he had samples of shark fin left at the BFAR office for further study. The shark fins were bound to Hong Kong.
