A fire burned down a two-storey boarding house in sitio Mamerto, barangay Sta. Cruz, Cebu City at 5:15 p.m. yesterday.

SFO3 Louie Opolentisima said the boarding house was owned by the Patalinghug family.

He said they received reports that the fire began at one of the rooms occupied by May-May Patalinghug.

The fire was declared under control 15 minutes after it started. Opolentisima said they still have to investigate the cause and the persons responsible for the fire. No one was hurt.

Chief Insp. Wildermar Tiu, Fuente police precinct chief, said the fire should serve as a lesson to house owners and boarders alike.

“The owner of the house should declare to the barangay whether his house is purely for his own shelter or a boarding house. Second, if the house is declared as a boarding house, the owner/s should have fire insurance in order for the boarders not to have difficulty in case of fire,” Tiu said.
