The Cebu South Coastal Road tunnel will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at dawn today for clean up.

Joy Tumulak, City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) operations head, said that mud has started to build up on the tunnel’s floor as a result of the continuous raining and flooding, which affected the city the last few days.

Because of the mud ,its already difficult for motorists to see the gutter.

Tunnel closure is set from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. to allow the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Public Services (DPS) to scrape off mud and spray the tunnel’s floor with water.

While clean up is ongoing, north-bound vehicles will be made to pass through the access road located beside the Malacañang sa Sugbu building.

South-bound vehicles will be diverted to MC Briones Street fronting city hall’s executive building then to the Cebu South Coastal Road.

Tumulak said they will deploy a total of 10 traffic enforcers to guide affected motorists during the tunnel’s clean up.
