Ombud probe sought for Guadalupe radios

ABOUT 20 residents of barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City asked the Ombudsman-Visayas to investigate the acquisition of 20 handheld radios by their village officials.

The complainants, who requested anonymity, said they believed the 20 handheld radios purchased by elected officials of barangay Guadalupe last May were overpriced.

“What is tagged P25,000 from the winning bidder can just be purchased in the amount not exceeding P13,500 each,” the complainants said.

Based on the price quotations from other suppliers, a VHF portable radio costs between P3,500 to P13,500. The complainants said the handheld radios purchased at P25,000 each by Guadalupe officials are overpriced.

“Economic considerations could not justify the huge price difference for the said purchase,” they said in their letter to the Ombudsman.

Cebu Daily News tried to contact Barangay Guadalupe chairman Michael Gacasan but he didn’t answer.
