Inutile and shameless

Another sea mishap has happened involving an inter-island vessel. Sea accidents are apparently “normal” in the Philippines especially during the monsoon season, so reports like this are no longer a surprise.
But what is so pathetic is the government’s reaction and its inutile way of handling them.

Sea tragedies have been occurring and yet, the government has yet to do something proactive and innovative to prevent them from happening again.

In fact, we have not heard the government sending to jail any of the owners and ship captains involved in sea mishaps.

Nobody has been held responsible so far.

It’s time our institutions hold ship owners and officers accountable.

What’s ironic is that, because an investigation is conducted and the results are wanting, no one ends up being made to answer for the loss of lives and property damage.

We might as well abolish these agencies because they are not performing their jobs. They bring shame to the country. And mishaps continue to haunt our seas.

What is preventing the government, specifically the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), from releasing financial aid to victims of the supertyphoon Yolanda?

Ten months have passed since the devastation and yet, the assistance given by foreign donors are still with DSWD.

This is really upsetting.

It is a crime to withhold these funds from people who badly needed them, at a time when they most needed it to rebuild their lives and homes.

What is keeping the DSWD from distributing the rest of the monetary assistance? I read that there are foreign donations that the DSWD had claimed as its own funds.

In a report, the Commission on Audit stated that aside from the foreign funding, relief goods from foreign donors were also rotting in the DSWD.

The DSWD is absolutely bringing down the entire government, but why is it that President Aquino is not doing anything about it?

Secretary Dinky Soliman is a cabinet member close to the President and is perceived to be very influential under this administration.

The national leadership must have the sense of urgency in releasing the foreign aid. These were given to us as immediate assistance to the victims.

DSWD has no business holding on to that money. It is not for DSWD, it is for those who were devastated by supertyphoon Yolanda.

We must remember that initially, many of the foreign donors were wary about coursing their donations through DSWD precisely because of what is happening.

Soliman should exert all efforts to distribute these now. It would be shameful and sad if foreign donors will no longer trust the government and would no longer course their donations to any agency of the government.

President Aquino should do something drastic about this now.
