The two commercial teams that will see action in the Cebu-Leyte Cup basketball tournament have beefed up their rosters, showing their keen intent to put up a tough fight against the teams from the Philippine Basketball Association.

Sam-Sam Gullas, backed by Panalay Tailoring, of head coach Bong Pineda will parade foreign players Steve Akomo, Jean Manga, Emmanuel Ojuola and Cristian Senthue, who will back up former PBA players Ramsey Williams, Patrick Cabahug and Reed Friar Juntilla.

The team will also have Ferdinand Lusdok, Ronald Bucao, Harold Cincoflores and Jovanie Aguilar.

Goldstar Hardware-Davao, this year’s champion of the Kadayan Basketball Tournament, will have Devon Sullivan, who once suited up as an import with the Thailand Slammers in the Asean Basketball League.

The team, coached by Ice Gravador, will also have foreign player Mike Harry Nzeusseu and Arjun Cordero.

The tournament will be held from Sept. 24 to 28 in various venues in southern Leyte and Cebu.

On Sept. 24, Goldstar will play Sam-Sam Gullas in a charity game in Baybay Leyte where players from Ginebra and Barako Bull will distribute relief goods to last year’s typhoon victims.

Tournament proper will kick off the next day where four games will be played in Hinundayan town, a two-hour trip from Baybay town.

On Sept. 25, Ginebra will play Goldstar at 6 p.m. followed by the main game encounter between Barako Bull and Sam-Sam Gullas.

On Sept. 26. Goldstar Hardware will collide with Sam-Sam Gullas, while Ginebra will take on Barako Bull in the main game.

Action will shift to Minglanilla town in southern Cebu on Sept. 27 with Sam-Sam Gullas taking on Goldstar at 7 p.m. followed by the 8:30 p.m. match between Barako Bull and the Meralco Bolts.

The final playdate will be played at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex on Sept. 28 with Barako Bull clashing with Goldstar in the 4 p.m. game followed by the 5:30 p.m. match between Ginebra and Meralco.

Van Halen Parmis, one of the tournament organizers, said the team with the most number of wins will be declared champion.
