Baby’s parents to seek legal aid

The parents of a stillborn baby whose head nearly got detached are set to meet Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to ask if City Hall could provide them legal assistance.

“The help might be for legal assistance or we will ask help from him to tell the attending physician of my wife to explain to us what really happened,” Redjie Torreon said.

The 24-year old father said that they are not satisfied with the apology given by attending physician Dr. Charlene Asuncion Laplana to his wife Antonieta who gave birth to their son at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) last Sept. 14.

“We really want a clear explanation from her why this incident happened to my child,” Torreon said.
His wife Antonieta said prior to her discharge, Dr. Laplana apologized to her for not informing her husband immediately.

Delivery

After meeting Rama, the Torreon couple will proceed to VSMMC where they expect to be given the results of the hospital’s investigation.

“I hope all our questions will be answered. This is not only for the justice for my son but I don’t want this to happen again to other parents and their babies,” Torreon said.

The hospital’s initial investigation disclosed last week stated that the baby died in the mother’s womb before she was admitted for delivery.

They also said the baby came in feet first rather than head first.

Half of the baby’s body from the navel to the feet was already out of the introitus or vaginal opening.
The hospital also denied that the baby’s head was cut off during delivery.
