Abellana, Refuela top Pink Run

Jade Abellana and Ian Refuela emerged the swiftest runners in the 12-kilometer division of yesterday’s 8th Pink Run of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS) Cebu Chapter and the Philippine College of Surgeons at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Abellana, a well known long distance runner, topped the distaff side in 1:02.59 while Refuela, an amateur boxer from Southwestern University (SWU) ruled the men’s race in 46:46. Jinggay Lugay placed second to Abellana in 1:05.50 while Nia Aldeguer finished third in 1:07.47.

Refuela’s runners-up were Desederio Ingbino (48:40) and UC’s Edzel Adriente (51:28).

Winners in the Doctors 12k run were Dr. Brian Belandres (1:09.42) in the men’s race and Dr. Marivic Tan (1:11.32) for the women’s side. Dr. Mateo Tipgos finished second behind Belandres (1:16.01) while Dr. Axcel Elesis (1:16.08) came in third. Tan was trailed by Dr. Weda Lim (1:25.38) and Dr. Roselyn Yu (1:28.18).

Even though the event was not competitive, Kenyan Francis Kakui still raced to join PSGS and PCS Cebu Chapter’s advocacy to spread awareness about breast cancer. Kakui won the men’s 6k run in 23:21 while Alfie Buenaflor topped the female class in 33:38.

In the 6k Doctors side, Dr. Harem Deiparine ruled the men’s race in 31:10 while Dr. Dysserie Palermo topped the distaff side in 38:39.

JR Baclaan and Mica Caballes topped the 3k race in 13:15 and 19:10 respectively while doctors Jin Cabanad and Abegail Alfeche won the Doctors 3k in 39:03 and 43:34, respectively.

Around a thousand runners joined the running event whose proceeds will be used to build a breast cancer clinic in the soon to rise Cebu City Medical Center. Race director was Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).
