Mandaue City rocked the recent Batang Pinoy Regional Finals in Kalibu, Aklan when six ALA Boxing Gym amateur boxers, who represented the city, harvested five gold medals on the way to dominating the event.

The ALA Boxing Gym fighters also collected two bronze medals in the tournament for basic education athletes.

Team Mandaue City’s gold medal winners was headed by last year’s Batang Pinoy National Finals champion Dominique Casanara who dominated the 52-kilogram division along with John Niño Vega (36kg) and Vicente Seos-e (46kg) who beat their rivals from Cebu City.

Cebu City emerged as runner-up with three gold medals a silver and one bronze.

Completing Team Mandaue’s gold medal winners were Danrick Sumabong and Carl Cortes who topped the 56kg and 54kg divisions, respectively.

Team Mandaue City’s bronze medalists were Patrick Gantuangco also from ALA Boxing Gym and Phil-Aust Boxing Gym’s Reiner Rana.

Mandaue City’s dominance in the regional meet is the fruit of ALA Boxing Gym’s year round grassroots program under the tutelage of coaches Rei Munez and Edcel Tuñacao.

The boxing team is expected to be commended by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and Mandaue City Sports Commissioner Ricardo Mendoza.
