Families living in the relocation site in barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City won’t have to worry about floodwaters reaching their doorsteps soon.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) allocated P25 million for a drainage project and a P50 million riprapping project at the access road leading to the relocation site.

Tony Pet Juanico, head of Mandaue City Hall’s Housing and Urban Development Office (HUDO), said they disclosed these projects to 12 presidents of the homeowners associations in the relocation site in last Friday’s meeting.

The association presidents represent the 1,200 families who chose to live in the relocation site provided by the Mandaue City government. The drainage and riprapping projects will start next year, Juanico said.

“The City of Mandaue is really committed to expedite the development of the relocation site. I hope and pray each beneficiary will give value to the opportunity we had given,” Juanico told the presidents.

Entitlement loan
He said Mandaue City Hall tapped a contractor to provide filling materials to the relocation site free of charge.

A portion of the 6.5 hectare relocation site occupied by families from sitios Mahayag and Subangdaku were filled with limestone that turned to mud during downpours.

Anna Oliveros, chairperson of the Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC), said the families can secure an entitlement loan with a maximum amount of P250,000 depending on their capacity to pay.

Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva said they will still review whether the families can secure a loan from SHFC.
