The chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) in Central Visayas yesterday gave his assurance that the suspected  leaders of the local communist movement, Benito and Wilma Tiamzon, would be safe  when they arrive in  Cebu on Dec. 1 to face the court.

The Tiamzon couple will be taken to Toledo City Regional Trial Court where they will be  arraigned for charges of illegal possession of firearms and incendiary devices that were filed against them.

The Tiamzons were arrested in Valencia, Carcar City last March 22. Benito was the chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines while Wilma was secretary-general at the time of their arrest, the authorities claimed.

The two were taken to the Philippine National Police custodial center in Camp Crame in Quezon City following their arrest.

“Don’t worry we are on top of the situation and together with AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines). We will try to make it as orderly as possible and make sure  they are secured from whatever reasons, from rescue or assassination attempts,” said Chief Supt. Prudencio Tom Bañas, director of PRO-7.

He said they are now closely coordinating with the military to map out the security measures.

Five people will also be brought to RTC Branch 29 in Toledo City for the arraignment of the charges of obstruction justice for “harboring and concealing” the Tiamzon couple who face multiple murder charges in Northern Samar.
