‘Tis the season for fake peso bills

Police yesterday warned the public on the proliferation of counterfeit currency notes this Christmas season.

Chief Supt. Prudencio Bañas, chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7), said the circulation of fake bills could extend until the Sinulog celebration in January.

Supt. Romeo Santander, chief of  the City Intelligence Branch (CIB), admitted  they have received reports of fake peso bills  being circulated.

He said they are monitoring two suspected counterfeiters who were previously arrested, but were released after posting bail.

SP01 Rainer Mahinay, Police Community Relation (PCR) officer of Carbon Police Station, said they have received several complaints from fish vendors in Carbon market that they were paid with fake bills.
