Cebu City seniors to get P3K aid today

Senior citizens in Cebu City will get their P3,000 assistance from City Hall today in their respective barangays.

City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas advised them to make sure that they get their cash aid either today or tomorrow.

“We have to give only a one day extension for those who can’t claim their assistance (today) because we have to close our books since it’s almost the end of the year already,” she said.

Cebu City Hall used to give the seniors at least a one week extension to claim their assistance.

Disbursing officers were encouraged to deliver the money to the homes of those who are bedridden.

Based on Cebu City Hall’s records, about 57,000 senior citizens will be receiving the P3,000 today, or a total of P163 million. The money was taken from the P300 million allocation for the first phase of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Of the P12,000 due to seniors this year, the city has so far disbursed P10,000 including the amount today. The balance of P2,000 will be given by the Cebu City government next month.

This move was criticized by some city councilors who said the city should distribute the full amount in the same year it was appropriated.

Lawyer Reymelio Delute, a supporter of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK), earlier asked Mayor Michael Rama for the release of the full amount this year or else he will file a case against Rama at the Ombudsman-Visayas for grave misconduct on the first working day of 2015.
