Some bad news for true-blue basketball fanatics and star struck movie fans.

The much anticipated all-star basketball exhibition game this Saturday afternoon at the University of San Carlos gym has been scrapped. It is being brought over to Cebu by Kogi-Q and Tomato Time.

Expected to play are Purefoods hotshot James Yap, reigning UAAP MVP Kiefer Ravena, former UAAP Finals MVP Jeron Teng, UAAP champions Gelo Alolino and Paolo Javelona of the National University Bulldogs and Far Eastern University standouts Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia.

Movie stars Derek Ramsay, Rayver Cruz, Ejay Falcon, Jayson Abalos are also supposed to play in the exhibition match and are expected to get the lion’s share of the shrieks and screams from their showbiz followers.

However, the event was scrapped Thursday with organizers citing the withdrawal of Yap and Ramsay as reasons.

Also, yesterday afternoon, this writer got an email from Jodie Lynn Soontit, Project Manager of Crinnovent Corp. which is handling the publicity of the event.

Soontit who is currently out of the country, confirmed the event’s cancellation.

Part of her email read: “I’m afraid I have some bad news.  The all-star basketball game and the Kogi-Q grand opening is not pushing through this weekend. It’s been cancelled. I don’t have the full details yet (currently out of country), but it seems like there is conflict between the restaurant and the stars’ producers and they cannot resolve their differences.

“It’s very unfortunate that they are cancelling so close to the event date and so many of the preparations have been done.  We still have to sort out everything, but I wanted to let you know right away. “

Meanwhile, those who have bought tickets will get a refund while free tickets will be given GCs by the organizers.
