Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants all 70 families living in the Inayawan landfill to be evacuated within 24 hours.

The families will be temporarily accommodated in potential evacuation sites like sports complexes or public schools.

“We’ll just talk about first getting them out of there. We’ll talk about everything else later,” he told reporters after a meeting with the quick response team this afternoon. Rama, who just came from an official trip to South Korea, convened a task force to conduct the evacuation.

The task force is headed by Rolando Ardosa, chief of the Department of Public Services (DPS).

Members of the group include Inayawan barangay chairman Lutherlee “Lotlot” Ignacio-Soon, Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) chief Collin Rossell and Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) head Jade Ponce.

The city legal office will deal with opposition from the settlers there. The task force will still be meeting to finalize the evacuation plans later this afternoon.
