Heavy traffic for 3 Kaplag ‘traslacion’ convoys

Road closures and rerouting will be made in some major roads in Cebu City for processions during  the Kaplag celebration.

Those with early morning appointments or travel plans should take note of these religious activities.

D. Jakosalem and Burgos streets will be closed during normal Mass schedules at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño said Citom operations head Joy Tumulak.

There are three motorcades for the traslacion or ritual transfer of the Sto. Niño image from the basilica tomorrow, on Sunday and Friday next week.

Roads will not be closed by traffic in intersections will have to stop to give way to the passage of the the convoy bringing the holy image of the Child Jesus.

Tomorrow at 6 a.m., the image of the Holy Child will be transferred to to the Redemptorist Church.

A motorcade will pass through Osmeña Blvd. then turn right  to D. Jakosalem St., turn left to Gen. Maxilom Ave., turn  right to Manalo Street, then turn left  to Queens Road then to the Redemtorist Church.

On April 19, Sunday,  a penitential walk with Jesus will held from the Redemptorist Church to the Basilica passing through Gotianuy St., right turn to Gen. Maxilom Ave., to Fuente Osmeña then left turn to Osmeña Blvd. then to the Basilica.

On April 24, Friday, at 9 a.m. another traslacion or ritual transfer of the image of the Sto. Niño will have a convoy start at  Basilica to San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish passing through Osmena Blvd., left turn to D. Jakosalem St., right turn to Magallanes St., straight to Tupas St., and to San Nicolas Church.

On April 26 and 27, Sunday and Monday, M.C Briones Street  up to Legaspi Street in downtown Cebu City will be closed.

This coincides with Masses  to be presided by Archbishop Piero Marini, president of the Pontifical Committee for the International Eucharistic Congress on the 26th and the mass with Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle at the basilica’s pilgrim center on the 27th.

On Sunday, April 26,  at 10 a.m. the image will be brought to the St Joseph Shrine in Mandaue City.

At 6 a.m. on Monday, a fluvial procession will bring the image from Mandaue City to  to Pier 1  in Cebu City following the same sea route of the Sinulog fluvial parade.

At 12 noon, the  road will be closed from the SRP viaduct to Malacanang sa Sugbo, M.C. Briones St., Burgos St., from M.J. Cuenco Ave. to D. Jakosalem St., from Osmena Blvd. to M.C. Briones St. and M.J. Cuenco Ave, and from Osmena Blvd. to M.C. Briones St.

Citom traffic enforcers will be on duty for the week-long celebration.
