Police urged to go after small-time robbers

MEMBERS of the Cebu Bankers Club (CBC) are encouraging police to be more active in going after small-time robbers.

Maximo Eleccion, CBC vice president  raised the group’s concern about small-time robbery groups seen in the region, who might just be preparing for bigger heists in the future.

“These small groups might be doing their dry runs and eventually victimize banks,” Eleccion said during the group’s monthly meeting last Tuesday.

Eleccion made the call after robbers struck a few weeks ago at the 8 E-Bingo Club in City Time Square in Mandaue City. The robbers made off with P1.9 million. The robbers were charged in court but remain at large.

“We just hope that the public will help the police so that these personalities will be arrested soon,” Eleccion said.

Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division 7 chief, said they are coordinating with their counterparts in Mindanao after receiving information of suspected robbers being sighted in Cebu.
