There are more cases of typhoid fever in Central Visayas this year compared to the first quarter of last year, said Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU)-7 head Renan Cimafranca.

However, no new cases were reported in Cebu after April 11, a welcome development for the province which recorded 20 cases in barangay Subayon, Toledo City early this year.

As of April 11, the health department recorded 219 cases and two deaths in the region due to typhoid fever while there were only 162 in the same period in 2014.
