THE CEBUANO jins who donned the colors of the Philippine national sparring team in the recent 2015 Asian Juniors Taekwondo Championship in Chinese Taipei displayed their readiness for the coming 2015 Palarong Pambansa as they bagged two of the three gold medals  the country won in the international tournament.

Of the 35 national sparring team players who saw action in the tournament, five were Cebuanos with four belonging to the University of Cebu (UC) varsity team.

The four helped the Philippines finish with three golds, three silvers and eight bronzes.

UC Baby Webmaster’s Nica Garces accounted for one gold of Team Philippines as she dominated the sparring event in the  pinweight category while UC elementary division athlete Dineson Caneda scored the second gold via the cadet class in bantamweight division.

Ann Shairmaine Albarracin delivered a silver medal through the cadet’s sparring event under the flyweight division as Nichole Maurin, Lee Navales and Clement Tan contributed silvers in the poomsae junior freestyle team competition.

The pair of Navales and Tan also snared a bronze medal in the junior freestyle pair’s competition.

Last year’s lone gold medalist of Region 7 in the Palarong Pambansa, Mayn Coran of UC, also handed a bronze medal in the junior sparring, while Nichole Maurin also had a bronze medal in the junior freestyle.

Other bronze medalists were Aidaine Laxa and Cheyena Dela Fuente in the team cadet standard event and MacAvyngur Alob.
