CEBU City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said the  Cebu city jail should have no overstaying inmates.

In yesterday’s meeting of the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC), Labella ordered Supt. Johnson Calub, city jail warden, to submit a report on  the status of inmates detained in order to find out if there are inmates who have fully served their prison sentence.

Labella said there should be no overstaying inmates similar to the situation in  Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) where over 180 inmates or at least 10 percent of the population  are overstaying.

Labella said it was agreed by the PCAC that Calub would provide a list of inmates in the  next meeting.

“Also if their cases are probational, we will do necessary intervention,” said the vice mayor.

Calub assured that the City Jail has no overstaying inmates.

Labella said that his office together with some non-government organizations (NGOs) initiated training programs at  the city jail where   they provided free paralegal services for inmates.

The volunteers help check on the status  of the inmates’ court cases.
